The Stranger

The Stranger

The man stared at me

Right into my eyes

Saying…you are smiling

I wanna know why

I look shocked and amazed

Did something happen today

He said, no, but why

Must you smile in this way

Why is your glass half full

Your cup running over its rim

Claiming life is so bright

When we both know it is grim

He was obviously angry

His jaw clinched tight

I offered him some water

Sir, are you alright?

Yes, I’m fine he stated

I’m just sick of this chatter

About love and peace

None of that even matters

I looked into his angry face

His eyes seemed so sad

His journey seemed so long

A hard life he had

I gently touched his hand

Squeezing ever so slight

I don’t know what happened sir

But everything will be alright

He looked at me half witted

You know nothing about me

No, but I can feel your pain

It’s easy to see

Anytime we hold on to anger

With such force

It’s due to great pain

I don’t know you of course

But I have a grandfather

And I would pray every day

That if someone saw him

In pain this way

They would softly remind him

How blessed the world has been

To have the benefit of his life

Which makes us all win

The mans eyes grew teary

Saying his load had grown tiring

I smiled and said yes, I know

All the while love was transpiring

I reminded him that even I

Was touched by his being

It wasn’t about my smile

Or the song I was singing

God sent me to you sir

For I know on this day

You needed an angel

Saying everything is okay

He squeezed my hand back

A weight lifted off of him

The sadness disappeared

He started to grin

I never knew what happened

To cause his sadness and tears

But I became filled with divine love

As I watched it disappear

This day I was reminded of what

I was selected to do

To constantly show strangers

God loves them too

I’ll Walk With You

I’ll Walk With You

The storm it is brewing

The war has been waged

We have altered a life

A child filled with rage

Where we might think it isn’t

A communicable disorder

We have started a chain

Can not be afforded

Outside looking inward

Logic is lost for a while

Why would an abused adult

Then abuse another child

It is a painful cycle no less

If we don’t stop the track

More children will be tainted

Falling under attack

This is not the legacy

We want to leave behind

Breaking young hearts

Tainting little minds

We can do better I know

It’s what must be done

We’re all victims…trapped

A vicious web has been spun

Let’s take back our lives

Stop giving in to neglect

It’s what God wants

What He expects

Protect the children now

There is nothing to think through

Would you want your parents silent

If it was happening to you

Our lives they are on fire

We are burning as we speak

Protect our children

The young…the weak

We have created our own hell

By being silent and still

These acts of cowardice

Are of our own will

Please join in my call

Make your actions follow my voice

It doesn’t have to be like this

We do have a choice

I will choose love forever

And too show my true way

I will announce and denounce

Those who live in the gray

You know the gray matter

Those who know but don’t speak

We have the power to change

We are not the ones weak

Be strong and stand tall

Know that God walks with you

Bring child abuse awareness

And I’ll walk with you too

**We MUST stop child abuse now…END THE CYCLE

The Best of Us All

The Best of Us All

We should never have cause

To mourn a child

Because we live in a world

That has simply gone wild

Children battered

Being constantly abused

The color of love

Is not the shade of a bruise

I have no understanding

Of how a parent can fore sake

The life of a child

The divine rules we do break

We have no right to injure

Or impose our gross interpretation

Of how we want life to be

Causing further alienation

Children are not little adults

They need our protection

Instead we have become the problem

The ongoing infection

I honestly can NOT tell you

I know why this occurred

And can’t get wrapped up in

How you might be disturbed

She was 9 years old

And then she was not

You were her father

I guess you forgot

So let me remind you

Her body was never yours to know

She was a baby…innocent

Now to never grow

So you took her life

To buy her silence about you

But let me give my voice

Another point of view

She no longer breathes

I think you should remember why

Because of what you did

Her silence you couldn’t buy

Children are true blessings

Each and every single one

Evidence of God is found

In our daughters and our sons

We must stop the violence

We can no longer turn away

Too many children are dying

Let us pray:

Oh Father…who is above Heaven

Please forgive our ignorant acts

Protect the children from us

For we know the facts

The fact is we neglect and abuse

The biggest blessings we’re given

We have no excuse

For the way we are living

Father please guard the children

We need to harbor them from the storm

It’s been our duty…our job

Since the day they were born

I don’t know when we lost our way

I just know that we did

Our children fell prey

We became sordid

Please remove the evil

Which flows through our veins

So we may meet you in Heaven

When we see you again

And too all those innocents

Which we sent home to you so fast

I hope you have finally found the love

You have needed at last

May you all have eternal peace

Knowing no harm can again befall

You TRULY are the very

Best of us all

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day

Being a mother has been

My biggest blessing

It’s my gift from God

My reason for being

Watching children grow

Is like watching a smile form

Furthering the knowledge

Of why I was born

I couldn’t imagine my life

Absent of my child

For the love of her

Makes life worthwhile

That million dollar smile

Which always kept me going

Lit up my empty life

She not even knowing

I’m humbled forever

By the joy in her face

Further proof of

My Savior’s grace

If you are a mother then

You know what I am saying

Its instant gratification

In watching them playing

Whoever would have thought

Life’s biggest reward

Would be wrapped in

The sweetest voice ever heard

But you won’t hear me complain

About the time which I’ve spent

It’s like having a ring side seat

At every life altering event

God must love me deeper

Than I ever realized

By allowing me the privilege

To gaze into those eyes

So to my fellow mother’s

I wanted to acknowledge your duty

By recognizing it for what it is

A thing of real beauty

You have filled those young minds

Embraced hearts that have grown

Given God’s grace and love

With every kiss you have thrown

Every nurturing embrace

Said so much more than you knew

It healed every time you gave

That external I Love You

I thank you and thank God

For leading me to my way

I love you now and forever

Happy Mother’s Day

The Lesson of Hope

The Lesson of Hope

What are the lessons I am teaching

While hanging on the end of your rope?

With God all things are possible

For He provides replenishing hope

Don’t feed the internal wolf

Of negativity and despair

For since the beginning of the beginning

It has always been there

But remember my loved ones

Even whilst dangling from a thread

We are holding on to the Truth

We were molded from instead

Hope can seem out of fashion

Can seem out of date

But it’s the age old Truth

It is never too late

Never too late to love one another

Never too late to make amends

Never too late to embrace an enemy

Making a place for new friends

I give you hope on these visits

For it is my destiny

To reopen your beautiful hearts

To the possibility

Life can run you over

It can shatter your dreams

Can make God more like a myth

Or so it may seem

But adversity is not an enemy

It actually can deter

The evils sent to destroy us

Make us weaker…as it were

Problems make us seek direction

Seeking solutions we didn’t see

Showing us the beauty of God

How He created humanity

Yes, I know we can feel broken

Deserted…with every issue thrown

But no matter what we may think

We are not alone

Hope is a reminder

Of all which we’ve been given

With God as our compass

Doesn’t matter where we were driven

All roads lead to home

The pathway is lit with God’s love

For home isn’t a house

But His mansion far above

So the lesson again is hope

Please never let it escape you

For I will need you to pass it on

To someone who needs it too

Until next time beloveds

I wish your hearts much ease

Go with God’s abundant blessings

And His eternal peace

An Angel’s Touch

An Angel’s Touch

A single gentle touch

Wiping a single tear from a cheek

Can undo the evils she felt

In a world gone so bleak

Why do we steer clear from

Those we know that are hurt

Healing can begin with

Every attempt we exert

I often wonder what we are thinking

When we are careful not to brush a hand

Pulling away so quickly

Why do we fail to understand

When we touch their hands

It’s like a heart that we touch

A small intimate gesture

That can mean so much

We may not understand why

She takes complete blame

Her world became tainted

Never to be the same

The world will never glance towards her

Seeing the same angelic face

At least in her mind

Something darker is in its place

No, she did nothing wrong

And while it’s obvious to us

It’s oblivious to her

Who we fail to gently touch

We can touch her with our eyes

Touch her with our hearts

Touch her with our love

Where she will always be a part

Of our lives forever…so

When she’s placing blame in her head

Let her find our thoughtful gestures

Of touch for her instead

Remind her of her beauty

Unique…sublime

Remind of her goodness

A God send…refined

Don’t steer away from her

Because you think it may be too much

Surround her with God’s love

And an angel’s touch

My Memory of You

My Memory of You

I often wish you were still here

But when I pause for a while

I remember my life fulfilled

Memories by the mile

I remember the funny things you said

Even using some of it now

Hoping to share your sweet love

Through my grief some how

I still yearn to escape

To your loving abode

Enjoying your take on life

The stories you told

Will anyone really ever

Hear the angel in your voice

Now it seems as if

There isn’t much choice

I miss your melodic harmony

Chased down with that smile

Blue eyes sparkling and dancing

In a world gone wild

It’s funny the things

We all take for granted

Saying words…doing harm

Things can’t be recanted

I laugh to myself when

I call to you in a dream

Seeming even in slumber

God knows what you mean

He sends you when I’m weary

Can’t seem to find my way

Reminding me to be thankful

For new memories I’ve made

So true you aren’t in them

But lucky for others and me

You are felt all around

Like the bark on my tree

Remember the story I told you

About people and a tree

Fruit and leaves are temporary

It’s the roots which ground me

You were always my root

Holding me steady and strong

Keeping my eyes on God

Right where they belonged

You are and were

My truest best friend

Which God bonded in blood

Were there til the end

And while my heart still aches

Over the loss of my sister my friend

I hold you closer still

With every memory I spend

For every memory I lend out

Reminds me that I didn’t lose at all

Instead of focusing on a broken heart

I’ve built a memory wall

So those who need it

Maybe are heart broken too

They can come and smile

At my memory of you

Do What Is Right

Do What Is Right

In the beginning there was light

And all things in between

We’ve been told this since birth

But what does it mean?

Does it mean how I worship

Should fall under scrutiny

Or that if my skin is too dark

I will be a victim of mutiny

No I didn’t get that message

When those words were said to me

Hate was never part of our

Eternal destiny

You can not impose your beliefs

Upon another’s heart

Just speak truth…wish them peace

When you go to part

You may think I should look

A little more like you

I guess the problem starts

When I feel the same way too

But the truth is that we

Are only part of a plan

No matter what we say

Like the blades on a fan

If we work against one another

There will be no cool air

And although life may get hard

Seem to be unfair

We are only a portion

Of a much larger picture

So stop sitting around indifferent

Like a kitchen tile fixture

Step up…speak up

Finally do what is right

Wrong is just wrong

Fight the good fight

If the debate of injustice

Just wages in your head

You’ve ended no war

Today there’s more dead

Does this seem melodramatic

A stretch of the imagination

We are walking around in hell

Our living damnation

The children we claim to love

Are starving to death

Abuse…neglect…dehydration

Another took his last breath

Sitting around politely

Wearing a sweet smile

Is evil when

Our children are defiled

Make some noise…yell

Make people jump to their feet

It’s nice if you want no problem

But there’s a child being beat

Maybe you didn’t give birth

To that child next door

But be rest assured

That child is yours

It’s the world’s child

What you do next is the key

Will you keep him locked up

Or set him free

Will you be his voice

No matter where you reside

Or sit there quietly

While again he dies

Understand my brother

And yes my sister too

That child is me

That child is you

Give him the chance to

Grow and learn from love

Show him our Creator is great

Embracing from above

Please wait no more

He has taken all he can bear

Show him humanity

By just being there

Don’t wait for another

To step and take over

Give him a childhood

Of roses in fields full of clover

Show humanity today

Shine God’s brilliant light

Help a child in need

I ask…do what is right

**We can put an end to child abuse…it is up to us…do your part. We are donating a portion of the proceeds from our poetry book “The Light of Our Path”  to the Atlanta Children’s Shelter, Inc

Every Day

Every Day

I know you are struggling

Sometimes life seems so unfair

And while I don’t know what it’s like

It doesn’t mean that I don’t care

I would remove all your pain

I would dry every last tear

If it made your journey easier

Or changed what brought you here

I know when we are moving

Our focus is on the end

Never knowing…not realizing

What is around the bend

More urgent than the destination

Are those we touched along the trail

Making the lesson about courage…strength

Not how we might have failed

For failure is not an option

You took whatever hand was dealt

Pressed forward…moved onward

No matter what you felt

There is true strength in your spirit

While you may wish you were more

I tell you you’re my hero

No matter what’s in store

Our Creator has set aside

A specific need for you

Maybe in something you will say

Or something you may do

Perhaps you lend your strong will

To one tired of holding on

One who would have let go

Before the day was done

What happened was traumatic

A terrible offense

But the good you can do

Will begin to make sense

Teach others of your struggle

Tell them they are not alone

Show them by example

How very much you’ve grown

For life is sometimes not fair

Not what we thought it would be

Thought we had it planned out

As far as the eye could see

But the goals of man are in vain

God has chartered our course

No time for self pity

No room for remorse

For all is as it would be

According to our Great Lord

The cost of our ego’s

Can be more than we can afford

So while you may struggle

On your path along the way

Remember I will be here

Loving you every day

World Healing Day

World Healing Day

Help me heal the world

One soul at a time

It really is so simple

I can even make it rhyme

Give love every day

It’s a bandage on our hearts

We are stronger when joined

Than when we are apart

Rinse clean our souls

Make everything brand new

Gently touch the lives of men

In everything you do

Start healing from within

Release all of the hate

We can start doing better today

It is not too late

Heal your next door neighbor

By simply changing your tone

It’s a slow progression

To the greatest love we’ve ever known

Heal by now stopping

With evil we always lose

Stepping on the broken

By all forms of abuse

We strike out in anger

To God’s angels in our path

As if they are responsible

For the massive ego wrath

Heal my friends I beg you

Make today a fresh new one

Where we make amends

For all the damage we have done

Shine God’s light daily

Use your beautiful smile

Give someone the hope

They haven’t seen in a while

Heal our Lord’s world

Pay homage to our King

By spreading His eternal love

And the hope that can bring

Heal our world today

Remember who you are

Bring kindness to each other

No matter near or far

All change takes time

Baby steps are a beginning

For if we keep up this pace

We should fear the ending

I wish you the very best

On World Healing Day

If we base it on God’s love

He will pave our way
