In The Blink Of An Eye

In The Blink Of An Eye

Life can be funny
Then one day it is not
One day graduating
The next day you were shot

A future so filled with brightness
An honor student in demand
A parent’s pride and joy
Life robbed by another’s hand

Tears come out of nowhere
Childhood friend’s hearts are breaking
Because some one didn’t think
About the life they were taking

Just kids at a party
Celebrating a future that was bright
Ended with bloodshed
On that cold Saturday night

Now instead of planning for college
As always doing his best
A mourning family musters up strength
To put this fallen angel to rest

My house is certainly solemn
My daughter needed to be held
Hard to convince our world is loving
When she’s experiencing Hell

How do we explain to our children
Why things like this occur
When the victim was a good child
Someone just like her

Why do bad things happen
I still recall her quest
He was only there 5 minutes
Always doing his best

Sadly I have no answer that
Would ease her troubled heart
Except that like right now
Ty’Quan was an angel from the start

So even though it is hard to let go
Of the ones that have come to touch our souls
Remember he now resides in Heaven
With more love than we’ll ever know

As a service I will tell you all
Treasure the children in your sight
For those moments can be stolen
At the blink of an eye.

**RIP TY’QUAN JOHNSON…you will forever be in our hearts

Abundant Peace

Abundant Peace

There have been those who have doubted

My call to uplift man

Those who may not choose to

Or want not to understand

I’m not saying those who are suffering

Are less important than me

But more about the part we play

In our humanity

Why do we just sit and watch

Children starving to death

Look in awe all the while

People take their last breaths

We will say it’s far away

What really can I do

I say…how did you help

Those in front of you

They may not look the same

As those dying far away

But they are suffering…

How many did you pass today

How many homeless people

Did you turn your sight from

Hoping that on the way home

That eyesore would be gone

How many screams have you heard

Praying it would stop

Yet when you hear about their demise

You had the nerve to be shocked

How many more kids must die

At the hands of a gun

How many more will fall

Before this day is done

How many more coffins

Will lay premature in the ground

How many lives will be lost

While just trying to be found

How many hands could we hold

To say I am here for you

How it would put a heart at ease

The right thing for us to do

How many times have we wondered

What if I had done that thing

Could it have made a difference

With the love it would bring

How many times can we afford

To live a life full of regret

I can tell you …a long time

If we allow ourselves to forget

If we forget that we all are children

Under Our Creator so great

And every time we allow it

It’s His heart that we break

For our purpose, I promise

Is not to turn away

From the plights of man

What he’s faced with today

But to lift him up to the Heavens

To stop indifference and then

Remind him that we have humanity

So we can start loving again

Shower your down and out brother

Give him a shoulder to lean

Remind him of God’s love

And all that it means

For when we start that cycle

The wars can finally cease

And we can finally get back to God

Living in abundant peace

Our Master’s Touch

Our Master’s Touch

We are linked together

Love is our only rope

Connecting us as one

With a chain of hope

We can lean on one another

Or push each other away

But hand in hand we can develop

The tools needed today

We need them for compassion

What the world seriously lacks

Or a tool of forgiveness

And kindness perhaps

We can learn that we

Were created to be one

And somehow together

God’s work will be done

Put down your weapons

Lay down your swords

And stop taking jabs at people

With your unkind words

Remember a jagged tongue

Can leave a brutal scar

And is one of the reasons

We are in the shape we are

Spreading vicious rumors

And using vindictive tones

Can sometimes be more harmful

That throwing large stones

We need to set aside our differences

Life is far too short

War is not necessary

No matter what the news reports

You will not get to heaven

With my blood on your hands

You must find kindness and mercy

It’s what God commands

So let’s stop preparing our children

For an untimely death

And teach them how to love

And show them they are blessed

Our children have important matters

Like school…sports…learning to run

They should not be bothered

With purchasing a gun

They are like fine spun crystal

So easily it will break

Far too many have perished

We have no time left to wait

Love one another often

You can’t say I love you too much

And I will see you at the divine alter

Waiting for our Master’s touch
