Love Has No Fear

Her life is unspoken

She has survived much

There are reasons why

She flinches at your touch

Be cautious I implore you

When seeking her understanding

Be sure to try and not judge

A life which is most demanding

Her scars are running deep

Her pain is devastating

Bruising goes deeper than skin

On thin ice she is skating

If she gathered her courage

Sucked up the fear

To reach out for help

As she wipes away a tear

Please do not judge her

Or the decisions she made

Don’t ask what she did to him

Or ask why it is she stayed

All she needs at this point

When all others are a dead end

Is someone to say…I’m sorry

An understanding friend

Remember your worst moments

Is her every minute of the day

No one to turn to for support

Always being pushed away

Be the life raft when needed

Be the calmer of the storm

Be the being you were intended

To be since you were born

Her life isn’t alien

It could happen to you

When your world crashes

And you don’t know what to do

Judge not my friends and neighbors

She represents us all

Life has a way of dropping us

When we’re standing too tall

She did not ask for the violence

And this domestic assault

This is not a lovers spat

IT IS NOT HER FAULT

See past what we are spoon fed

Look beyond the pointing finger

Criticisms of her life is where

Hate tends to linger

Embrace her with all you have

Remind her…I am here

Walk her down God’s path

Where love has no fear

NO

NO

My body does not give permission

Nor allow it to be so

No matter what we are told now

NO MEANS NO

My body is my own

I have no regard for those who

Say I didn’t fight enough

So I must have wanted to

Rape is not a dime store toy

It’s a cruelty beyond words

And anyone who says else

Is simply absurd

I didn’t really fight enough?

My body…mind needs to shut down

Wonder if such statements would be made

If YOUR life was turned upside down

Do you understand the torment

Do you understand the fear

After living with a rape

The last thing we need to hear

If she asked for it

Or she didn’t hit hard enough

She isn’t a victim

Maybe she likes it rough

If it seems I am being unkind

Or if my heart is being twisted

I will tell you I know a God

Who said…no…insisted

I be treated with respect

I am deemed as a Queen

Protected by a Creator

Who understands what I mean

When I say this one more time

NO matter who tells you so

In the instance of RAPE

No means NO

**My poem today is in response to a Superior Court Justice’s remarks about a rape case**

To my readers…rape is a horrendous crime…not to be taken lightly. It takes so much courage to come forth and report this crime…PLEASE do not victimize her twice

I wish you all Peace

Beauty

Beauty

Beauty unrealized

Letting others tell us so

Too fat too thin

The world screaming no

But I will tell you now

It’s not about perfection

Beauty is not skin deep

Or others expectations

True beauty was established

Upon our first glance

Of your beautiful heart

Thank you for the chance

For beauty is not defined

By the eye of mankind

But something so much deeper

Let me tell you what’s in my mind

You are pure beauty

As depicted in beautiful prose

It’s the beat of your spirit

The life you chose

The kindness in your tone

The whisper of the truth

The rare innocence

Only found in our youth

So the next time someone decides

You aren’t good enough today

Smile and simply tell them

It wasn’t for you anyway

For we were created from

A place without mistake

A land of perfection

Paradise a land so great

How can any child think

They are less than their source

Greatness is where we came from

It is our steady course

So smile your best smile

Head up toward the clouds

For your beauty is found

In being unique from the crowd

Embrace your true self

Cast aside judgment of them

Give your thanks always

Praise God…Amen

Wide Eyed Girl

Wide Eyed Girl

What did you do

What did you wear

Questions like these

Simply aren’t fair

Did you say no

How loud did you scream

Did you ask for it…

Is what that means

Is it not enough for you

That she felt such intrusion

Questions like these

Jumping to conclusions

When she reaches out for compassion

And is interrogated this way

Is similar to being attacked again

Worse than yesterday

What did she wear…really

What did she do wrong?

She wore survival gear

Thank God she lasted this long

Judge not unless you

Want the same treatment too

No question…yes

I’m talking to you

No one deserves this anguish

And your questions without doubt

Is why this crime happens

It brings this behavior about

As long as society thinks

She did something to deserve

To be taken…beaten…humiliated

Can’t believe the nerve

It doesn’t matter what she wore

It doesn’t matter when she said no

She was never at fault for this

Your inhumanity…beginning to show

NO matter where she was

No matter what she did

She was not at fault

The fault was always his

She trusted the wrong person

That’s a deep line

There are two offenses

Even if only one is a crime

I promise you my lovelies

She has been a victim of her heart

So please stop the insulting jabs

It’s you who is tearing her apart

Dig deep within your soul

Where God will lead you home

It keeps our hearts anew

With more love than you have known

Embrace this child of God

He is watching what you do

Give which would be sought

If this crime happened to you

Shine Divine Light daily

Give praise not assault

When it comes to matters like these

It never was her fault

Give love…be love

No matter who “she” is

We get one chance to show God

This might be it

I know your heart is pure

Your spirit is divine

Tear down the attacking tones

Let your inner light shine

Don’t let the one she reaches for

Be the last straw of her heart

Make a change in your life

Let’s make a brand new start

If she cries out not in silence

Please don’t turn a deaf ear

Your chance to make a difference

It is right here

Let’s work together to repair

This broken down world

So we never have to mourn

Another sweet wide eyed girl

Stones

Stones

The streets were crowded

People randomly shouting

But a voice which seemed softer

Had more people crowding

There were shouts made in anger

One said…I’m glad it’s not the time of Jesus

The crowd agreed…a small girl stepped up

And what makes you think …he’s not one of us

What makes you seem so sure

He was not the boy that got shot

Or the homeless man with the sign

The abused girl getting hit a lot

What makes us so smug now

That we couldn’t even agree

That God could even look like

The kid trying to save a tree

She walked as she spoke

Making sure to touch our hands

Even though we have read the stories

We still fail to understand

Jesus didn’t have a glow over his head

He wasn’t accepted or adorned

Not in the beginning…or the end

Proved by a crown made of thorns

He simply spoke about peace

Some people listened…others did not

Even those who were close to him

Even those…they forgot

He was not a rich man

A carpenter…who just roamed

Often no food to eat

Never really had a home

Let’s say He is here amongst us

Even if just in fun

Today if that was Jesus

You would call him a bum

You would make fun of his plight

You would kick him when he fell

You would judge and belittle Him

The obscenities you would yell

You would not fall to your knees

Nor would you even ask his name

You call yourself faithful

We should all be ashamed

For even if the Lord is not walking

Along side of us today

We learned nothing from the past

It’s why we live this way

We point fingers and belittle

Those we fail to understand

We are so filled with self

We rarely reach out our hands

Remember the story we were told

About the young woman being stoned

Those men picked up rocks

They wouldn’t leave her alone

Jesus spoke above their banter

They were having actual fun

Jesus said…you without sin

May cast the first one

Rocks fell like rain at that moment

They all walked away

But how many of us

Lead by example like this today

How often do you say to others

Judge not lest you be judged

The crowd grew deadly quiet

Could see not one person budge

Fear not judgment upon death

The girl said humbly and clear

For if you live a life of love now

You would have nothing to fear

In a moment she was gone

No one even saw her leave

Did anyone get her name

But there really was no need

For the message she delivered

Was accepted and known

When amongst all of our feet

Were casted away stones

God’s Holy Light

God’s Holy Light

Do you think my eyes tell you?

All there really is to know

Do you make assumptions about my life?

Before first asking me so?

What means of measure do we use

To decide a persons value in our eyes

And if my hair color comes from a box

What am I trying to disguise

If I do not disclose my true weight

Does that mean that my soul is more lean

Or perhaps our judgment system

Has just become a little bit obscene

If I am homeless…heated only by a fire

Burning in an open can

Does that make you better than me?

Or make me less of a man

Or perhaps you think your bank account

Will make your words have weight

And perhaps…even you…

Believe the lies that you create

For you see within my soul

Lives the story of God untold

And that cannot be purchased

With any diamonds or gold

The monetary value we place on life

Will guarantee us nothing but a mirage

After all we can’t get to heaven

By driving what’s parked in the garage

Your new hairstyle…while very cute

Does not pay homage to our King

Neither does thinking that

You are better than anyone or anything

The color of my hair and eyes

Do not tell you what you need to know

Anymore than watering a plant with sand

Will encourage the seedling to grow

Ask me about my Lord and

The promises to Him I keep

Then you won’t guess but know

That my love…it runs deep

Ask me about my path and how

I face adversity when it comes

I will tell you…with my faith in God

My feet firmly planted…facing toward the sun

I challenge anyone…anything

And when it’s given all it’s got

I will tell that mountain to get out of my way

Because the love of God…I’ve got

When we challenge the value of anyone

We are challenging God and all His glory

And the wrath of God is steep

You know…you’ve read all the stories

So I’m saying to you be cautious

And when you talk of others be bright

Because you must look beneath the layers

To see people with God’s Holy Light

Missed Messages

Missed Messages

“I am for the truth no matter who tells it…I am for justice no matter who it is for”

                   Malcolm X

There are times in our lives when we are given a valuable truth…the only question remaining is will you be willing to receive it?

As children, most of us would willingly accept any information as the divine truth, from our parents. However as life would have it we would begin to learn that often our parents intentions would never be mirrored in our lives again. As we grew older, we learned that some people may not have our best interest at heart. We became suspicious of others. Somehow along the path of our lives we started to correlate what was said with who was saying it…this in itself is a powerful lesson.

We can often confuse the message and the messenger; the two may not be related. As people with our own concepts or those which have been instilled in us…be it directly or indirectly, we often have fallen into the trap that the most important messages come in the most beautifully wrapped packages. How many times have you encountered a person on the street and because they had a certain look, or lack thereof, you only half listened to the words being spoken? There will be messages that come to us…important vital messages. If we are not receptive to the message because we have a preconceived notion about the messenger…we will lose that blessing.

This will be why you will see me write about being accepting of others. We have no way to foresee into the future and know all that we should pay attention to now. Often the most important message will come from the most unlikely source.

When we close off our hearts and minds to specific people or groups of people…we are limiting our ability to receive messages or lessons sent by our Creator. We have missed out on the true concept of our existence when we pigeon hole or get caught up in stereo types. There had to have been a clear cut reason why it is that we all look so different and sound different. We are actually the different perspectives that we were all supposed to have…but they were all supposed to lead us back to the arms of our Father. Instead, we have isolated ourselves behind ideas and images of hate and destruction. Again, we must focus on the significance of what is being communicated and not in the orator.

Sometimes the message isn’t about our well being, but that of others. We are given insight to situations, it is up to us to either react or do nothing; but in the end we are always going to be held accountable for those decisions. We must make the assumption that every time something is brought to our attention, directly or indirectly, it is meant for us. I mean, if we are walking down the street and we find a bag of money laying there with no one else around…don’t we think that it was God helping us out with some financial problem? Wouldn’t we think that it was the answer to our prayers? With that same mentality, how can we watch children dying from starvation in Africa or children dying due to homelessness on the news…and think that it wasn’t a message intended for us? How will we explain to our Creator, on our day of judgment, why we did nothing? If we only respond to the issues in our world when we have something to gain from it…we are NOT doing the will of God. Our path is not one of self righteousness. We are supposed to seek the greater good for mankind…not ourselves.

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life we come into contact with many people, both physically and verbally; when you think of how many people you came into contact with today…I must ask one question…How many messages did you miss?
