Where Does Your Heart Lie

I was looking at photographs the other day, of homeless or underprivileged children. The photographer was trying to create awareness, and attention to this ongoing problem in our world. He was smart enough to know that people tend to be more sympathetic towards small children and any suffering they may go through, as opposed to any other age group. And, as was the expected effect, I was saddened, beyond words.

However today, it had me thinking a little deeper, into the state of the human condition. The pictures I saw were moving. It led me to think about something I saw once about homeless people living under a bridge. No one was taking pictures of these people, except to draw attention to what an eye sore they were. It bothered people, who were DRIVING past to go to their air conditioned offices, to have to see someone in that state. The people were not asking for money, they weren’t even asking for food…they had signs asking for a job. They didn’t want a handout; they wanted to EARN their own way. But instead, they got a petition started about them, because people driving passed didn’t want to feel bad about driving past them. Imagine…they wanted to feel good, so they had to NOT eliminate the problem, but to not have to SEE the problem. I suppose it would be different if I said this was happening in another country, because we tend to only care about those causes when it is politically correct, and we are expected to care. How many opportunities does God have to give us, to show love to others? Would it have been more difficult for those people to drive past a 5 year old living under the bridge?  Where is our compassion? What has happened to our hearts? Why have we gone cold? Are we ever thinking that the man under the bridge may be trying to find work for a family, which depends on him, everyday? And all we gave him was a slap on the hand, saying “looking at you reminds me that I am not doing what God meant for me to do”. I’m not saying that the people who drove past were bad people, just that they weren’t showing compassion and love to one of God’s creatures…and don’t we know by now that we are supposed to love one another?

Of course, the real problem is that we never put ourselves into any one else’s shoes. We never think about how hard life must be for that person, or his family. We never think about how humbling it must be to have to stand under a bridge all day long asking some one to give us a chance to earn our own way. There are people in this country that think it is embarrassing to not have 250 cable channels, or to get a cell phone turned off for non-payment; never mind having to carry a sign under a bridge. And we think God is looking down on us, smiling?

We are so quick to pass judgment on people, and there appearance or circumstances. We REALLY believe it could never be us. We need to remember, most likely, that man wasn’t born homeless. Things happen, people lose jobs, homes, and cars…the thing that make us feel that we are better than the next person. How long would you feel this way, if you were trying to support a family…with the wrong LOOK? Never mind not having a car, or the only car you have is the one your family lives out of. Do you know that if a homeless person lives out of their car, that the state will take away their children? And instead of helping…we judge; saying things like people “like that” shouldn’t have children. We all are victims of circumstance…just because you believe you have it all doesn’t mean anything…that “belief” is an illusion.

What lessons are we teaching our children? Remember the most important lessons, are the ones NOT spoken…but observed. Why do we only see homeless or hungry children on the commercials asking for money? Because those organizations know that we, as people, think that an adult…could have made better decisions. It is my deepest hope for mankind…that God DOESN’T know the intentions of all of our hearts.

The important thing to remember is this…it is a new day. We can wake up today, and decide to do the right thing.

Release

Release into the universe

Release out to the sea

Past relationship woes

Man-made negativities

Release what he or she did

Release the things they said

Don’t feed into the hate

When love needs to be fed

Release the pain and anguish

Release promises not kept

Focus on the journey

It isn’t over yet

Release the weight of your baggage

Set down your emotional sobs

Find the forgiveness you seek

From a most loving God

Release all that now binds you

Let go of feelings from your past

Inhale the light and love

For this will most certainly last

Yes…take this moment

Let go of destructive thoughts

Let me tell you about Forgiveness

And others attributes I’ve brought

Kindness is healing

It is the center of our core

It makes way for our blessings

And I tell you there is more

Empathy is involvement

It says I understand it too

It’s the flowing of love

Saying…this is for you

Joy is the nutrient

Which feeds the souls need

To release all that stunts our growth

In fact…helps us be free

Free of frustration and anger

Free of negative vibes

Freeing a heart broken

Letting the memory subside

The last thing that I brought you

Is love boundless and bright

To show your beauty untapped

When washed in the Light

Release all the dark days

Make room for delight

And see yourself as I do

Beautiful in my sight

**Don’t make the great people in your lives pay for the relationships that didn’t work…these relationships were created to help us grow…stop living there

What Are You

What Are You

If all that you are

Is the THINGS you need

If you lost those things

What would happen to THEE

If all that you are

Is all that you do

If all that stopped

What would happen to you

If we place identity upon

Places and things

What happens to a soul

What does this mean

All that you are

Is an investment in Creation

Remember life isn’t a part of

Your personal recreation

Dig deep within yourself

Find the core of your being

Let go of what you think

Nonsense you are believing

You were created from love

And that is who you are

Your greatness is with THE ONE

Who lives amongst the stars

We are from one Source

It is all that we ever need

What you are is enough

This is my Humanity Creed

You need not try to become

What others may perceive

Trust in the one who guides

That’s TRUE love indeed

Break down barrier lines

Tear down walls of frustration

Give love…be love

It’s my Humanity declaration

For when we return indifference

With love as our sword

We have accomplished our task

What we are striving for

What are you now

Do you finally see the light

We are lambs of God

And beautiful in His sight

One final take before

I end my little rhyme

What are you to me

Perfect…Every time

All That You Do

All That You Do

I wonder when it happened

When we started to deface

The integrity of others

Solely based on their race

I’m not even certain when

Races came to be

We certainly weren’t created

From this hostility

It is man made but I wonder

Why would one think

That being superior

Would make all others shrink?

Hmmm, one must realize

With the logic we have

That looking down on others

Just makes us look bad

I mean God created all things

Who are we to say

What is better…who is brighter

How are we living today

We merely exist, I tell you

Due to our own selfish pride

It’s clear we are making errors

We are barely getting by

The planet is dying

Our air is dirty

Everyday we prove

Why we are unworthy

Yet every single day goes by

More hate being spread

And we are deciding

Who is better off dead

There is no superior man

No greater race

No perfect culture

This is not OUR space

May God be patient

With our egotistical ways

And may we find His Grace

Before kneeling to pray

So here’s to us all

Man and woman alike

Love all skin tones

Black yellow red or white

Let us recall with humility

The love inserted in our being

Allow us to spread God’s joy

To all people and things

May we all cross the finish line

With the answer to this

Did you give back to My Creation

Or did you merely exist

What did you contribute

Our Father will ask

Did you love all things

It was your only task

My friends give love…be love

In all that you do

Shine light and hope

As He has shone on you

Be the greater being

Be the example of our Creator

You are part of a plan

Of something so much greater

So when looking down on others

Remember this poem’s for you

Reminding all to shine brighter

In all that you do

The Bright Side

The Bright Side

Life can sometimes spiral out of control. We can feel as if we are lost or even as if we may not want to be found. We may feel alone or isolated…wondering who would even notice if we just dropped off the face of the earth. These sentiments are what make this topic pertinent. We are all important, our lives are essential in some plan that God has for us. Just like when we speak of the importance of animals and the chain or circle of life…we, too, are critical parts; in the grander scheme of things. Something as minor as a smile to a stranger…may change the course or energy of a day. A kind word or gesture could turn war time into a moment of peace.

What is the bright side of a life which appears to have no particular meaning? Well, we woke up today. We lifted our heads…and because we were willed to do so…the work God has lain out for us has begun. The bright side is the fact that today…unlike some…you received the gift of another moment…another opportunity to do the work of our Creator. Today we can hold our heads up and move forward. We get to choose whether we live or simply exist; while keeping in mind that we are the example that others are turning to. People don’t want us to tell them what to do…but they are open to observing those thoughts in action. We are responsible for all of our deeds…large and small…good and bad. We can impress or depress people…we have the luxury of choosing the path we walk.

Look on the bright side…today is a new day…and the way we view it may help or hinder someone else. Things happen in life, some of these things may seem like they have broken us…left us in pieces. I think we have all felt this way…one time or another. But the actual truth is…we were not broken, shattered, crushed, or defeated. We were simply temporarily impaired…stunned…surprised…startled and dismayed. And here we are…not only present and accounted for but looking on the bright side of life. We have simply evolved into another part of who we were intended to be. We may feel sad at times due to a change or loss in our lives; and while I am not trying to take away from that very real feeling…I am going to tell you that hope always exists.

You get to decide the energy that you will emit on others…just as I do. And yes, we will sometimes falter. It is okay to stumble on the building blocks of life…as long as we understand that they are just blocks…and not giant walls with no means of escape. You have to remember to pick yourself up and press on…eyes are watching you. If you have hope…someone else will be able to feed off of it…and they will be able to give hope to others, as well. Use the foundation that we were created with…love…peace….understanding and kindness; these are the elements of success and hope.

Life is a gift. It regenerates, rejuvenates and revitalizes our souls. It is okay to have rough days…but understand that…better days will follow. No one expects perfection, but we do expect, desire, and need your word that you will constantly strive for more.

Our lives contribute to the ever populating circle of love…and the bright side of that concept is that love always comes back ten fold. Love is more like the boomerang of God…no matter where you toss it…God will make sure it finds you again. Contribute to the lives of others…remember they too are looking for a bright side…be that for them. Other people have the same insecurities, anxieties, and hesitations that you may have…lend them your shoulder and in doing so…open your heart.

The possibilities of life are endless…unless we stop trying. Do not be your own road block…expect the impossible…because with the divine love of our Creator…all things are attainable. There is no goal or idea which is too much for our Creator…we simply need to ask and be prepared to receive it. Look at the bright side…no matter how dire a situation seems…this too shall pass…and the lesson in the struggle may feed the hopes and aspirations of others.

If

If

If she tells you how he hurts her

Know that it is true

When you ask why she doesn’t tell

Remember she is turning to you

If you say it can’t be THAT bad

Or she wouldn’t ever stay

Know the dangers of judging

Don’t look at her that way

If she says that he hit her

Understand the sugar coating words

If you knew the extent of the truth

You would find it most absurd

Could you even fathom a life

Where hope is led astray

A life that once shined

Now is spent being afraid

If you are too busy discounting

Making excuses placing blame

You leave her abandoned

In her abuse induced shame

If you criticize her choices

As if you could do it better

You may push her over that cliff

Where she is lost forever

Wouldn’t it be worth the risk

In case she was lying

Than to forsake her safety

So many women are dying

If she comes to you for help

Know that it took all she had

It places her safety at risk

He could get angry, violent and mad

If for just a moment

You could wear her battle scars

You too would pray for relief

When you look up at the stars

You would have a deeper understanding

Of how she prays to not wake

Your reaction to her cries

All the difference it could make

The statistics are minimal

The pain of abuse is far reaching

Our children are watching

What ideas are we teaching

Reach out for her heart

I know this life too well

Extend a loving heart

Where God…always dwells

If you want to make a difference

Open your heart…lend an ear

She needs compassion…hope

While she lives in such fear

Women are abused daily

So listen closely to this

Please don’t waste time

On the judgmental ‘IF”

I Will Survive

Dear John Smith
This letter is overdue
Don’t let the anonymity fool
I’m not protecting you

I am in fact freeing me
By telling your story loud
I’m tired of living in fear
And getting lost in a crowd

You are just a simple number
There are many…evil as you
Who steal a woman’s hope and joy
While robbing her virtue

You should be ashamed
But you never behaved as such
You scarred my inner self
Making me quiver to a loving touch

You made me afraid of life
You made me afraid of me
You made me question myself
Who I used to be

But on this day I tell you
I fear you no more
I’m not afraid of the torture
Or whatever you have in store

You may have taken a piece
Of a special part of me
But I refuse to become you
A blister on humanity

I am my Fathers daughter
I stand tall…head held high
My heart stronger than ever
A tear slips through my sigh

I am sorry I ever gave you
A single bit of power
Taking the life away
From this most beloved flower

I am sorry that you are so sorry
I regret ever taking part
In a relationship so violent
Where you broke more than my heart

But today I am wiser
Today I am aware
You are just a battle wound
To me…you aren’t there

So claim victory if you must
But I will tell you the truth
There is no injury so severe
That God won’t see me through

I am not your possession
I am not ill gotten gains
I survived your Evil ways
And my faith…it remains

So crawl back to your hole
Where true cowardice lights
I am a warrior…forever
And I will survive

You Are Loved

You Are Loved
We are so particular
Fixing our hair every day
We could hardly be seen
Looking half done this way

We select our clothes carefully
Sometimes the night before
Planned often days ahead
Sometimes even more

Yet while we are spending
Our time looking at us
What are we overlooking
Making our intentions unjust

If our hearts were as beautiful
As our faces and hair
We would never judge another
Yes, let’s start there

We look down upon others
While smiling in their face
Saying I do not judge anyone
Yet cursing their race

We impose our belief system
Upon others in our way
Saying it is as I tell you
No matter what you may say

We have railroaded people
Locked them in chains
Yet criticize them when
Only anger remains

We watch our women be abused
Our children being assaulted
But why even get involved
It’s not our fault…is it

Not our fault…really?
How did this thought transpire
Like watching people burning
While we walk right past the fire

If you care about self
As we all have tendency to do
While casting aside others
Who deserve the same things too

We are failing to reach High
Not doing what we should
Always talking about how we can’t
Knowing full well that we could

Acting like loving is a punishment
For a spiritual crime
Thinking not of our brothers
Because we are still stuck on “mine”

When we can not see the forest
Because of those worthless trees
We no longer must wonder why
Our garden is full of weeds

For while you may have success
Money, fame and things
You will become a victim of ego
And the punishment that brings

For ego is not real, however
When we create it within
We have edged away God
The only TRUE sin

For you are not greater or wiser
Than anyone or anything here
You have, in fact, lost focus
So you will live in real fear

Fear that one day someone
Will see you for who you are
Not an angel of truth
But a faint falling star

So start today, it’s so easy
Reach out for a hand to shake
Start loving all that
He did create

And at the end of the day
Give thanks for those touched
So you may be reminded why
You are loved so much

When Your New Day Starts
Someone wise once told me
The arrogance of the fight
Is not in the challenge but
The decision of who is right
Quite often the sharpness of our tongue
Can start to feel like a blade
Leaving our opponent worn down
From the remarks that we made
Often said my earth angel we tend to forget
About the survival of hope
It’s all we need to get by
It feels we are at the end of our rope
Destroying each others will
Will only lead to rage
Where no one really wins
And first blood is engaged
Is it not better to have a life?
Without all of the grief
Sure victory is sweet
But the taste is so brief
Who doesn’t need hope?
And something to believe in that is greater
And what power is larger
Than the one of Our Creator
So squabble if you have extra time
And no tasks ahead of you
But when you verbally assault God’s children
You will have answering to do
Like what good have you done?
Who did you help in your time?
And those wills that you tested
Those spirits were mine
I tell you your hearts are where
Our Father…he lives
It’s the reason it’s housed
In a cage made of ribs
So when you break the heart of another
As if it can be fixed in a shop
I beg you to wake up
I implore you to stop
For God so loved man that within him
He breathed His air
It’s why God is within us
We can find Him everywhere
So my beautiful brothers and sisters
Go easy on the our ears…our hearts
And recycle the gift of hope
When your new day does start

Our Limit is the Sky

Shouts made in anger
Threats creating fear
Made to be so much worse
When said by someone dear

His words tend to cut
Into the very heart of you
Were there good times…yes
But in comparison…very few

He needs to make you feel
Less than the woman that you are
But not what God wanted for you
As he peers down from the stars

You may want to give up
Just throw up your hands
But I’m telling you not to
Find strength…make a stand

His words while hurtful
Are still not true
He has yet to know
The real woman…which is you

The sad people who hurt us
Trying to cause us pain
Only bring out our inner warrior
Where only light remains

We cannot be defeated
By their negative tone
Because one fact remains true
You are not alone

Any effort which he has made
To break your tender heart
Is only made fruitless by
He who created us from the start

No matter what effects man
Chooses to impose
God knows the path which
Turns a seed into a rose

He knows what is best
For His children one and all
He gives us courage to walk
When we think we can only crawl

Stand up my dear sister
Hold your head high
For our Father walks with you
And while its okay to cry

Know that when your tears
Have dried in the light of His love
You will soar like God’s angels
On the wings of a snowy dove

You have strength and power
Not yet even tapped
It matters not where you have been
Only where you are at

And you are at the feet of God
He will help you rise
For when we submit to His will
Our limit is the sky
